Work Flow

DETAILED FLOW

INTERVIEW FROM THE CUSTOMER

Clarify customer complaints before inspection. First of all, perform an interview utilizing Diagnostic Work Sheet and reproduce symptoms as well as fully understand it. Ask customer about his/her complaints carefully. Check symptoms by driving Nissan Pathfinder vehicle with customer, if necessary.

CAUTION:

Customers are not professional. Never guess easily like “maybe the customer means that...,” or “maybe the customer mentions this symptom”.

>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK SYMPTOM

Reproduce the symptom that is indicated by the customer, based on the information from the customer obtained by interview. Also check that the symptom is not caused by protection function. Refer to Protection Function.

CAUTION:

When the symptom is caused by normal operation, fully inspect each portion and obtain the understanding of customer that the symptom is not caused by a malfunction.

GO TO 3.

PERFORM SELF-DIAGNOSIS

CONSULT

Select “Self Diagnostic Result” mode of “ALL MODE AWD/4WD”.

Is any DTC detected?

YES>>

Record or print self-diagnosis results. GO TO 4.

NO>>

GO TO 6.

RECHECK SYMPTOM

CONSULT

  1. Erase self-diagnostic results for “ALL MODE AWD/4WD”.

  2. Perform DTC confirmation procedures for the error detected system.

NOTE:

If some DTCs are detected at the same time, determine the order for performing the diagnosis based on DTC Inspection Priority Chart.

Is any DTC detected?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Check harness and connectors based on the information obtained by interview. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

REPAIR OR REPLACE ERROR-DETECTED PARTS

  • Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  • Reconnect part or connector after repairing or replacing.

  • When DTC is detected, erase self-diagnostic results for “ALL MODE AWD/4WD”.

GO TO 7.

IDENTIFY ERROR-DETECTED SYSTEM BY SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS

Estimate error-detected system based on symptom diagnosis and perform inspection.

Can the error-detected system be identified?

YES>>

GO TO 7.

NO>>

Check harness and connectors based on the information obtained by interview. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

FINAL CHECK

CONSULT

  1. Check the reference value for 4WD control unit.

  2. Recheck the symptom and check that symptom is not reproduced on the same conditions.

Is the symptom reproduced?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Inspection End.

Diagnostic Work Sheet

Description

  • In general, customers have their own criteria for a problem. Therefore, it is important to understand the symptom and status well enough by asking the customer about his/her concerns carefully. To systemize all the information for the diagnosis, prepare the interview sheet referring to the interview points.

  • In some cases, multiple conditions that appear simultaneously may cause a DTC to be detected.

Additional Service When Replacing Awd Control Unit (in Electro-Hydraulic Coupling) Nissan Pathfinder

Description

When replacing 4WD control unit (integrated with actuator assembly of electro-hydraulic coupling assembly) and electro-hydraulic coupling assembly, the following work is required:

For the work procedure, refer to Work Procedure.

CONSULT

  • 4WD control unit programming

    NOTE:

    Since Nissan Pathfinder vehicle specifications are not yet written in a new 4WD control unit, it is necessary to write them with CONSULT.

  • Air bleeding and initialize oil deterioration level of electro-hydraulic coupling oil

Work Procedure

NOTE:

Before starting, make sure:

  • ASIST on the CONSULT has been synchronized to the current date.

  • All CONSULT software updates (if any) have been installed.

REPLACING CONTROL UNIT

  1. Ignition switch OFF.

  2. Replace electro-hydraulic coupling assembly or AWD control unit (integrated with actuator assembly). Refer to Disassembly.

GO TO 2.

PERFORM AWD CONTROL UNIT PROGRAMMIMG

CONSULT

NOTE:

You must establish communication with the Nissan server to access the calibration data files, and perform the appropriate programming by obtaining ROM data ID of AWD control unit.

  • Select “Re/programming, Configuration” from the main menu of the CONSULT.

    NOTE:

    If Nissan Pathfinder vehicle “Automatic Selection (VIN)” could not be retrieved, proceed with “Manual Selection (Nissan Pathfinder Vehicle Name)”, then confirm your selection.

  • Select “ALL MODE AWD/4WD” when prompted

  • Select “Data Via Auto Programming”, and follow the instructions according to the procedure in CONSULT Operation Manual.

PERFORM AIR BLEEDING AND INITIALIZE OIL DETERIORATION LEVEL

Perform air bleeding and initialize oil deterioration level of electro-hydraulic coupling oil. Refer to Description.

Air Bleeding and Initialize Oil Deterioration Level Nissan Pathfinder Fifth generation

Description

When the electro-hydraulic coupling oil is drained, such as when replacing or removing/installing electro-hydraulic coupling component parts, the air bleeding and initialize oil deterioration level of electro-hydraulic coupling oil is required after fill with new electro-hydraulic coupling oil.

Work Procedure

PREPARATIONS BEFORE WORK

Set the vehicle in the following condition:

  • Temperature condition is 14°F (-10°C) or higher.

  • Nissan Pathfinder Vehicle is stopped on a flat place.

  • Engine running.

  • Battery voltage condition is 14.2 V or more.

    NOTE:

    If the battery voltage is low, it is necessary to add a booster.

GO TO 2.

AIR BLEEDING AND INITIALIZE OIL DETERIORATION LEVEL

CONSULT

  1. Ignition switch OFF to ON.

  2. Select “BLEED AIR & INITIALIZE OIL DETERIORATION LEVEL” in “Work support” mode of “ALL MODE AWD/4WD”.

  3. Select “Start”.

  4. Follow the instructions in CONSULT.

    NOTE:

    When air bleeding is activated, operation noise is heard from the lower part of the Nissan Pathfinder vehicle, but this is not a malfunction.

Is “Completed” displayed?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Perform self-diagnosis for “ALL MODE AWD/4WD” and check detected DTC. Refer to DTC Index.

CHECK OIL LEVEL

Check oil level for electro-hydraulic coupling oil again and add oil if necessary. Refer to Adjustment.

NOTE:

The oil level may be reduced after air bleeding.

GO TO 4.

FINAL CHECK

CONSULT

Perform DTC confirmation procedure for DTC “C1220-54”. Refer to DTC Description.

Is DTC “C1220-54” detected?

YES>>

Proceed to diagnosis procedure: Refer to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.

NO>>

Work End.
